Joan Belgrave

Joan’s career spans from the microphone to the studio and pen. As a vocalist, songwriter, producer, and manager, Joan’s career shows enthusiasm and passion as strong and melodic as her vocal gift. She began her musical career singing soulful blues songs with her mother. Music was always playing in her house as a child, and she and her mother would sing together. At age five, she began singing lead in the choir of her Baptist
church. She then studied classical voice. At the age of six, she entered the world of classical voice under the direction of University of Michigan classical tenor, Dr. Willis Patterson. She attended Interlochen International Arts Academy under Dr. Patterson’s direction. As a composer, her Grammy-nominated jazz CD Excitable and new R&B hit
single “Hey Love” will enrapture, captivate, and uplift (view the Hey Love video on youtube)! Joan has a Dinah Washington small band concert and
symphony orchestra show that is celebrated internationally. She is honored to be a member of the Motown Legends Gospel Choir where her “roots” run deep. She is a lead vocalist with Detroit’s jazz master, Marcus Belgrave’s Louis Armstrong & Ray Charles ensembles, and she is a
featured vocalist on legendary jazz label, Blue Note Records’ “Detroit Jazz All star” project with her stellar delivery of Dinah Washington’s “Please
Send Me Someone to Love”. As a former lead vocalist With Charlie Gabriel’s (of Preservation Hall) New Orleans Tradition jazz ensemble she
added “ A little gumbo to the mix”. Her holiday smash EP project “Merry Christmas Baby” has been met with critical praise: “Jazzy/soulful..The
Belgrave household really brings it here..a nice change of pace, Belgrave proves there’s still plenty of life in a lot of old Christmas bones”—Midwest
